Pantops Apartment Building
and Wellness Center

Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge
Charlottesville, Virginia

The project resulted from a master planning process to expand the different housing options and provide updated amenities on the existing campus.

The mixed-use building has 54 apartments, under-building parking, aquatic center with three different pools and water temperatures, indoor walking track, fitness center, locker rooms, massage/spa space, two open exercise rooms, and a 50 person, sloped floor theater.

Because of the limited area and desire to connect with the existing main building, the new structure bridges the extension of an existing campus road and allows for vehicles to pass below the apartments and above the parking levels. A feature of the building is the large open space for the elevated natatorium, which utilizes large steel members to support four levels of apartments and over-looking walking track above.

Each apartment includes a screened porch and many include views of Monticello and Carter's Mountains. The top floor apartments have vaulted living room ceilings with clerestory windows.

The exterior components of the project include a labyrinth, small amphitheater, raised garden beds for resident use, and garden pavilions with serving kitchen, tool storage, bathrooms, and firepit.

The project was designed and managed by Drew Kepley while a Principal at SFCS Inc., Architect of Record.
