Bigelow Arts Center

Piper Shores Retirement Community
Scarborough, Maine

Imagined as an amenity for residents, the Bigelow Center provides space for residents to create and display their art. The building features a large gallery space, painting, ceramic, and fabric studios and an outdoor terrace/display area. The project grew out of a strategic planning process with the desire to provide residents with an art venue of their own. The design team worked closely with a number of community residents and staff to tailor the layout to their vision.

The building includes a variety of different ceiling treatments with multiple exposures to views and natural light. The architecture takes cues from the existing structures on the campus as well as Shingle Style architecture of coastal New England.

The project was designed and managed by Drew Kepley while a Principal at SFCS Inc., Architect of Record.
