Elrod Commons Marketplace Dining, Cafe 77 & Kitchen Renovations

Washington & Lee University
Lexington, Virginia

The original vision for the Commons was to serve as the "living room" for Washington and Lee University and it serves as the center of student life and activity.

Located in the lower level of the Elrod Commons, The Marketplace is an all-you-care-to-eat dining hall. It has a varying menu and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and continuous dining options in between.

The interior renovations to the Marketplace revamped the existing serving areas and totally re-worked the kitchen and support areas. New ceilings, lighting, finishes and signage helped update and re-brand the space.

Cafe 77 is located on the main campus level of the Elrod Commons and is open from early morning to late-night. It includes a grill for prep of short order favorites, but also offers many grab-and-go items. The renovations  included a total replacement and reconfiguration of the prep and retail area as well as updates to the main commons room that offers seating for the cafe.

The collaboration of a multi-discipline team resulted in enhanced venues completed within a compressed construction schedule.
