Community Center Expansion

Abernethy Laurels
EveryAge Senior Living
Newton, North Carolina

This project resulted from a strategic master planning process undertaken to help guide the future growth of the community. The main element is the new community center with a two-story multi-purpose room, natatorium, café, fitness center with exercise and rehab space, and other resident amenities. The existing library, a favorite of residents on the campus, was enlarged and renovated as part of the work. It’s located as a link between the original community building and the new center.

Located on a state highway in a rural area, the new structure features a clock tower as a landmark for the campus. The design includes a lower-level entrance to provide direct access to the fitness center for residents and outside guests. The brick exteriors continue the predominant cladding used around the community.

The project was designed and managed by Drew Kepley while a Principal at SFCS Inc., Architect of Record.
