Elrod Commons Dining Expansion

Washington & Lee University
Lexington, Virginia

Building on the increased demand of the dining program, Washington and Lee University has undertaken an expansion of their main dining room.

Located in the lower level of the Elrod Commons, the new space will be adjacent to the The Marketplace servery and will seat over 140 people. A new roof terrace at the Campus Level will provide additional seating off the existing Café Terrace.

The exterior of the addition will continue the palette of the existing structure with precast concrete cladding, steel guardrails, and roof terrace pavers. Over-sized windows provide views out to the adjacent woods and a large central skylight will allow natural light into the center of the room. The new interior finishes will be complementary to the existing spaces, but provide a slightly different character to the space.

The project featured a multi-discipline team and a tight construction timeline.
